Pronouns - personal pronouns (I, me, you dll)

Pronoun adalah kata yang digunakan untuk menggantikan noun (kata benda) yang dapat berupa orang, benda, hewan, tempat, atau konsep abstrak.

Personal pronouns adalah kata ganti yang menunjukkan pada orang atau penamaan. Kata ganti orang ini digunakan sebagai subjek dan objek.

subject and object pronouns:

Kita menggunakan he/him untuk menggantikan laki-laki(men), dan she/her untuk menggantikan perempuan (women). Ketika kita tidak yakin sedang membicarakan tentang a man or a woman maka kita gunakan they/them.

This is Jack. He’s my brother. I don’t think you have met him.
This is Angela. She’s my sister. Have you met her before?
Talk to a friend. Ask them to help you.
You could go to a doctor. They might help you.

Subject pronouns

Kita menggunakan subject pronouns sebagai subject of the verb:

I like your dress.
You are late.
He is my friend
It is raining
She is on holiday
We live in England.
They come from London.

Clause dalam bahasa inggris selalu mempunyai subjek

His father has just retired. Was a teacher. > He was a teacher.
I’m waiting for my wife. Is late.  > She is late.

JIka tidak ada subjek lain kita gunakan it or there. Kita sebut ini sebagai dummy subject.

Object pronouns

 Untuk apa kita gunakan object pronouns ??

• Sebagai objek dari kata kerja:

Can you help me please?
I can see you.
She doesn’t like him.
I saw her in town today.
We saw them in town yesterday, but they didn’t see us.

• Setelah prepositions (kata depan/perangkai):

She is waiting for me.
I’ll get it for you.
Give it to him.
Why are you looking at her?
Don’t take it from us.
I’ll speak to them.
